The great filmmaker, programmer, critic, archivist, and artist Jonas Mekas passed away on Wednesday, January 23 at the age of 96. According to an announcement on the Anthology Film Archives Twitter account, “He died peacefully at home, with family at his side.” Mekas dedicated his life to supporting cinema as an art form, and there are few who had as large of an influence on the medium as he did.

Mekas spoke at a Film Society of Lincoln Center Free Talk event in 2016. Listen to his conversation with Dan Sullivan below.
